Many European countries have started developing smart cities to meet their future needs.
Amsterdam Smart City is one of the best examples. There are 79 different projects collaboratively developed by the government, local residents, and business firms, and the collective purpose of all these projects is to reduce traffic woes, save energy, and improve public safety.
Barcelona, too, has established a number of projects that can be considered as ‘
smart city‘ applications. The city has a perfectly designed bus network based on data analysis of the most common traffic flows in the city, utilizing primarily vertical, horizontal and diagonal routes with a number of interchanges.
Meanwhile,
Stockholm’s smart city technology is underpinned by the Stokab dark fiber system which provides a universal fiber optic network for
digital communications. Private companies can lease fiber as service providers on equal terms. The company is owned by the City of Stockholm itself.
